Add support for avif (real HDR images) and .jxl
I wonder if you all are thinking of adding support for images that have real HDR data in them. These are usually in avif or dxl format and can be used to display images that have brightness info above the normal max brightness in jpeg/tiff/etc files. Camera raw and photoshop added support for this recently and the images are absolutely amazing if you have a display that supports it.
See here: https://helpx.adobe.com/camera-raw/using/hdr-output.html
See this video for what it enables: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FW7hee5j49w&t=1s Make sure to watch on a HDR capable screen.
Also this website has examples of what it can do: https://gregbenzphotography.com/hdr/ This website only works in Chrome currently and will only show the effect on a HDR capable screen.
Re: Logo sizing on mobile view

That's great thank you, it works perfectly. Do you know why there is excess spacing above and below the logo on small devices? Is this something that can be altered?
There may be a better way, but this is the only way I could think of...
/* Removes top/bottom padding/margin on the logo */ @media (max-width: 425px) { .sm-user-ui .sm-page-widget-logo-container a img { display: block; background-position: center top !important; height: 82px !important; } .sm-user-ui .sm-page-widget.sm-page-widget-logo .sm-page-widget-content { padding-bottom: 0 !important; } }
Re: Desktop to Mobile View Transistion Point
First off, you have an missing bracket here:
/* ================ = SmartPhones = ================ For screens large enough, add the word "Download" after the download button */ @media only screen and (min-width: 1200px) { /* Add the word "Download" after the download button */ .sm-button.sm-button-image-download:after { content: " Download" !important; font-size: 95%; }
It should look like this:
/* ================ = SmartPhones = ================ For screens large enough, add the word "Download" after the download button */ @media only screen and (min-width: 1200px) { /* Add the word "Download" after the download button */ .sm-button.sm-button-image-download:after { content: " Download" !important; font-size: 95%; } }
Once you fix that, you can add this. It will allow your Translation, Logo, and Social buttons in your header to have their own row up to 800px.
/* Switches Translation, Logo and Social to 3 rows @800px or smaller */ @media screen and (max-width: 800px) { .sm-user-ui .sm-page-layout .sm-page-layout-row, .sm-user-ui .sm-page-layout .sm-page-layout-region, .sm-user-ui .sm-page-layout .sm-page-layout-row .sm-page-layout-column { display: block !important; width: 100% !important; letter-spacing: normal !important; word-spacing: normal !important; float: none !important; } }
Re: Solar Eclipse - April 8, 2024
I love your photos, and the cartoons, too.
We live in the path of totality for this eclipse, so I didn't have to travel at all to see my first total eclipse. We had some fairly thick, but intermittent cloud cover all morning leading up to the big show. We caught a break and had some clearing during most of the time of totality. It was pretty awesome. I've never tried to photograph the sun or an eclipse before, so I didn't have a clue what I was really doing. I got a few images that I like, but my images showing the prominences were not super sharp, which was disappointing. Still, it was a fun experience and I have enjoyed seeing everyone else's photos of the event.

I didn't see a thread here, so let me be the first! We went up to Fishers, Indiana, just northeast of Indianapolis, for the eclipse. That's an 8-hour drive from home, drove up Sunday - I'm not an astrophysicist, but we did stay at a Holiday Inn Express! We watched from the hotel parking lot with a couple dozen other folks. We had some high, thin cirrus clouds that really didn't affect our shots. This is the second eclipse that I've experienced totality - I was out for the 2017 show as well - and it is an absolutely amazing sight to see!
Great work, John. That first compilation is the very best of that genre that I've seen. Kudos to you.

A quick and dirty early edit of one of the 2024 totals from the Lawrenceville-Vincennes Airport. Still looking through many hundreds of bracketed exposures. AFAIK, none were OOF, thank goodness.
